"I really appreciated all the hard work and effort everyone put in. The staff's energy at your Event Centre was amazing and they really helped rally the troops! I think it was just a fun day for friends and family which in our industry is a HUGE deal. The major benefit for our company was the chance for staff to unwind, get to know each other and just enjoy being outdoors. We absolutely received value for money. Canadian Outback was wonderful. With our thousands of changes in ideas, locations etc they were always available and up to the challenge. I think any corporation would benefit from their services."

Vancouver Island Caving

FAQs

The caves at Horne Lake are largely undeveloped and kept in a natural state. They were even voted "Best Natural Outdoor Site in BC" by Attractions Canada. In keeping with the low-impact theme, none of the caves have permanent lighting or sidewalks and the floors are rocky and uneven. In winter, wetter conditions prevail. Due to the terrain, the very elderly or those with limited mobility may have difficulty on the trails or in the caves. The temperature inside the caves is cool (8 degrees Celsius or 48 degrees Fahrenheit). Bring warm clothes and sturdy boots or running shoes. Cameras are always welcome!

Facts About Caving:

  • Caving can be physically challenging, but no experience is necessary
  • Participants should be active and fairly fit
  • Minimum age is 8 years old
  • The cave is wild and undeveloped with no electricity or infrastructure
  • The caves are always about 8 degrees Celsius or 48 degrees Fahrenheit
  • We supply all necessary equipment including headlamps and helmets
  • Caving is available year round, but is much wetter throughout the winter. The seasons dictate which caves are open!
